Known for being a little more rugged, wild and untamed, there are still plenty of things to do in west Cornwall. Our central location means both coasts are within easy driving distance with acclaimed attractions, tropical gardens and galleries also close by.
Head to the coast for a surf lesson or hire a kayak or SUP from one of our local beaches to experience our coastline from the water, you may even have a seal for company! Pack your swimming costume to wild dip in hidden rockpools and swim in crystal clear waters or don your snorkel and mask to uncover the underwater world. One of our most recommended things to do in west Cornwall is to take a boat trip, either from St Ives on the north coast or Penzance on the south, each promising plenty of wildlife spotting as well as providing a whole new perspective on the Cornish coast.
Walkers will find themselves in total paradise with miles of the famed South West Coast Path at their fingertips. Lace up your boots to hike up steep cliff paths to be greeted with sweeping sea views along the most south-westerly tip of Great Britain. Keep eyes peeled for the Cornish Chough which has made an astonishing comeback as well as Kittiwakes, Peregrine Falcons and more. In land won’t disappoint with trails running from coast to coast, traversing swathes of ancient moorland and rolling countryside.
And no visit to this part of Cornwall would be complete without a visit to the Minack Theatre, arguably the absolute must when it comes to things to do in west Cornwall. Perched high on the Cornish cliff tops, this spectacular open-air theatre runs shows every summer with sweeping views along the coastline. Browse the exhibition centre and admire the scenery from the cafe before joining the B3306 back to St Ives. Listed as one of the most scenic roads in Britain we suggest you take your time to wind your way along. Head underground at Geevor tin mine, experience exquisite cuisine at The Gurnard’s Head, discover the Mermaid of Zennor and take in the breath-taking views before arriving into bustling St Ives where you can refresh and revive.
